Friends!

On this day in 1827 was born Leonid Glibov – well-known Ukrainian teacher, writer and fabulist.

Leonid was born in the village. His father Ivan was the manager at the horse herds. Later, his father moved to the village in Kremenchug County, where he claimed the family.

Leonid first was taught at home by his mother, and at age 13 he entered the Poltava gymnasium. There he began to write poetry. When Glibov was 20, his first collection appeared - "Leonid Glebova poems." Headmaster of school was angry of that and he was expelled. Genre, in wich the author was the best is a fable. He began to write them when he studied at the Nizhyn Higher Sciences lyceum, and published them in the newspaper "Chernyhiv Provincial Gazette." Under the influence of "Kobzar" by Taras Shevchenko Glibov began to write in Ukrainian.

After the Lyceum Leonid Glibov got a job as a teacher of history and geography in the Black Isle, and later moved to Chernihiv to be teacher of gymnasium.

Life was not easy for him. At first his parents died, then - daughter. She choked bone when ate fish. His wife Paraskeva meanwhile began to betray - first with the writer Panteleimon Kulish but later with Ivan Andrushchenko. To his treacherous wife writer dedicated a fable "Turtledove and Sparrow."

Glibov continued to create. A talented and energetic advocate of progressive teaching methods, he became publisher and editor of the newly established newspaper "Chernigov sheet". There were printed socially acute materials condemned the abuse of local officials, landowners, judges. Of course, such work was dissatisfied with the authorities. So in 1863 Glibov was arrested "for ties with a member of an underground organization" Land and Freedom " Ivan Andrushchenko" and he was attached to a police surveillance, and more - denied the right to be a teacher.

Glibov moved to Nizhyn. Paraskeva meanwhile died of cancer, so he married a second time and returned to Chernigov. In 1867 he became manager of the rural printing, printed favorite stories, poems, and other works of journalism. He wanted to do it on Ukrainian. And in Chernihiv it was prohibited, so the works were sent to Lviv.

Leonid died on the 10th of November, 1893 in Chernihiv, where he was buried in the monastery of the Holy Trinity. Funeral procession stretched as much as half a mile.

Friends! Leonid Glibov was a true national fabulist, he carried deep folk humor. Its content playfully ironic works were simple and clear to everyone, but they have shown the most important - life and experiences of ordinary Ukrainian.
