Unmarried girls waited for their fiancées, wadded in advance, threw them into the water, and young men – caught them.

Subsequently, mostly in pairs, everyone was going to look for a mythical fern color. According to the beliefs, the one who found him received riches and eternal youth. Grass was also collected - on this day it was believed to have healing properties.

With the introduction of Christianity, the holiday received a different meaning. On the 7th of July 7 is celebrate the day of John the Baptist, who baptized the first Christians in the waters of the Jordan. On this day, believers consecrate coriander from herbs in the churches.
