A former head of the foreign intelligence service "Mossad," Meir Dagan passed away at the age of 71, on Thursday, March 17.

I’d like to tell you about this legendary figure. Meir Dagan (Huberman) was born on January 30, 1945, in Kherson. At the age of five years, he and his family has immigrated to Israel. In 1963, Meir Dagan began to serve in the Airborne Brigade of landing-force brigade at IDF.

During the service, he took part in many armed conflicts: in the Six-Day War, the Yom Kippur War, and the First Lebanon War. He was one of the organizers of the elite anti-terrorist unit "Rimon" in 1970. He was appointed as a head of operational management of the General Staff in 1992. He was demobilized in 1995, having the rank of Major General. Some sources claim that some of the leaders of Hamas and "Hezbollah" have been liquidated at the initiative of Dagan.

Meir Dagan possessed the recognized competence in the Israeli and international intelligence community. He was given the nickname "Superman" in Egypt, and in Israel, he is called as a hero of the invisible front. Thanks to the work of Dagan the thousands of lives, not only soldiers but also civilians had been saved; his contribution to the security of the country can hardly be overestimated.
