Friends!
Today in Ukraine is the day of commemorating of the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident. People, who tried to save the world from a terrible disaster, are still called "Chernobyl soldiers."
Only the courage and sacrifice of liquidators were able to minimize the effects of one of the worst man-made disasters in the world. However, for this purpose, many people had to sacrifice their lives and health. These were nuclear workers, firefighters, militaries and employees. At the radiation area worked more than 650 thousand people. They worked till they received the maximum dose of radiation, after that went out, and were replaced by followers. It was the circle.
Unfortunately, the Chernobyl disaster has left its mark not only on the liquidators, but on all Ukrainians. Significantly worsened the health of the nation. Besides, many years the country lived under the threat of destruction of the sarcophagus, which could cause the next release of radioactive waste.
Fortunately, on the 29th of November was completed the new thrust of the arch that covers the unit 4. This new sarcophagus is called "Shelter", its entire construction lasted 4 years, and the tender for the construction was announced back in 2004. The arch was built with the latest technologies by several companies from the US, France and Ukraine. New "defense" against radiation costed 1.5 billion euros. Now Ukrainians can breathe easily. However, only 100 years.
Friends, today we have a moment of silence to honor the memory of courageous and brave people, who lost their lives in exchange of ours. Although, not for all it is a day of sorrow. Liquidators of Chornobyl find it a holiday. On the 14th of December, they completely conquered the radiation monster and reduced the sarcophagus over the fourth reactor. Eternal honor to you, dear heroes!
