Friends!
Today is the birthday of the famous Ukrainian writer, playwright, director and public figure Mykola Kulish. All we will remember him, and I'll tell you why.
Nicholas was born in Chaplinka, in the family of laborers. But he showed his abilities at the school, because he was a smart boy with a good memory. Thanks to their knowledge, the initiative of the local teacher and material assistance to wealthy farmers in the $ 100, Nicholas was able to continue his education in a four-year college in Oleshkiv.
His mother died, father married again, and he lived in shelter. Here he began to write. Kulish continued education in the gymnasium. There he was able to find a common language with Ivan Dnieper - a man who later influenced his whole life.
Nicholas lived in a room at the family Newell, felt in love with their daughter Tosya and later married her. She bore him two wonderful children - daughter Olga and son Vladimir. While his wife was sitting with children, Nicholas Kulish had to take part in the First World War and to came back.
Woman sit at home with children, had not interest him, she was not his muse. Therefore, in Odessa, he met the director of the kindergarten Ladyshka, they started romance. But he could not leave the family. But he missed this love triangle all the time.
In 1925 together with his family, he moved into the main cultural center - Kharkiv. They lived in a home for juvenile delinquents. Therefore, by the way, homelessness also became one of the themes of his work.
In Kharkov Kulish met with well-known Ukrainian writers Ostap Vyshnia, Nicholas Khvyliovy, Arkady Lubchenco. And, probably, the main meeting was with Les Kurbas.
Their creative tandem was extraordinary and intuitive. It allowed to create masterpieces. For example, the play "97". Everyone were impressed by their idea and the ability to show the soul through a theater.
"Muckle Grass' was his latest work. Socio-psychological drama told about the confrontation of man and society. Unfortunately for Kulish this confrontation had a foregone conclusion. On the 7th of December, 1934 he was arrested and subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. Under arrest, he contracted tuberculosis. But he did not die from it.
Together with a friend Kurbas they were shot on the 3d of November, 1937 in Sandarmokh.
"Each of us lives for centuries, because we are, above all, - the ideas," Kulish wrote. He really was the idea. Ukrainian talent, innovation, extravagance. Talent that we all need to remember and respect.
