Friends!
On this day in 2006 died Ukrainian brilliant surgeon Olexander Shalimov, the world-renowned physician, a man with a unique view on his work, which helped him to made a breakthrough in surgery.
Olexander was born in 1918 in the Lipetsk region, then the family moved to Kuban. The future doctor had 13 brothers and sisters! Parents had some very hard times, because they were ordinary peasants, who had to work hard to feed a large family. Olexander helped his parents, was not afraid of any work, was a shepherd, and carpenter's assistant. At the same time, he studied very well. Due to advances in education, the boy was sent to the Agricultural Institute. He was delighted, but the thing, that changed his life happened: in the tram Olexander stepped up to the woman leg, extremely angered her. Later it turned out that she took the documents for admission to college. The guy did not even approach them, just walked away.
And next year he was able to go to college. However, this time medical. He graduated with honors. Then all graduates were taken to serve, because it was 1941. Olexander did not hit the front just because in youth he suffered some complex diseases, including malaria.
He was sent to work into the gray wilderness, where had to learn from experience, he even could not ask for the advice of anyone - other doctors were at a distance of several hundred kilometers. Then Olexander Shalimov discovered his life credo: always learn. Every day he woke up two hours earlier to read before work about the new diseases, which he did not know.
To Ukraine, the Academy moved in 1957, became an assistant professor of surgery Kharkov Medical Institute. In 1970 he began to work in Kiev, where five years later he founded the Institute of Surgery and Transplantation. Olexandr Shalimov went down in history as the founder of Ukrainian school of surgery, developed 50 new methods of operations, was the author of 870 scientific papers. He could have made an operation on anybody, generally he operated more than 40 thousand patients. After developing a unique method of treatment of pancreatitis he even was offered to become a head of the hospital in Germany, but he stayed. "Who then will treat our people?" - He asked. He loved his institution and work, and colleagues. They told that even when Alexander already had to stop working, he still came to the institute every day. When colleagues talked about new methods of treatment, his eyes was bright, he regretted that he did not think about them earlier.
Although the Ukrainian language was not native to Shalimov, he learned many Ukrainian songs and poems and loved to tell them at various meetings. Generally, he liked the local nature and often led friends and colleagues in the woods or for a walk on the Dnieper.
Friends! Such bright, hardworking people who mind their efforts and create the future of the country is its main value. I am grateful to Olexander for extraordinary contribution to the development of Ukrainian medicine and thousands of lives saved. Eternal memory.

Today Ukrainian by ancient tradition celebrate Forgiveness Sunday. On this day, people have to remember those they have offended and apologize wholeheartedly.
According to the Christian rite, you cannot fat with sins of the soul. Therefore, we must talk and go to visit those, who we offended, even if we didn’t want that. Also, we have to be ready to forgive the people, who will ask for forgiveness, though it is very difficult.
Forgiveness Sunday also symbolizes the end of winter cold and the final arrival of spring. So, this day was traditionally festive. Families prepared dumplings with cheese, participated in the mass festivities, danced and competed. Was burned an effigy symbolizing winter.
The ritual dinner of Forgiveness Sunday was called zahovyny. This was the last generous table before Lent, although it was not allowed to eat meat and drink alcohol. From that day people stopped eating dairy products, so the last dish of the day of our forefathers was made of the eggs.
Friends! Take care of those you love and try not to upset them. Always ask for forgiveness on time. If you could not - now is a good time to do it.

Today is the birthday of outstanding Ukrainian poetess LesyaUkrainka! 146 years ago, she was born in Zvyagel. In honor of this important date, I want to tell you some interesting facts about her, you might not know.
I think it is no secret that LesyaUkrainka is a nickname. The real name of the poet is Larissa Kosach. At home, she was called Lesya, Zeyeya and Mysholosiya. Mysholosiya isa combination of the names Mysha and Lesia, brother and sister Kosach. According to legend, alias "Ukrainian" Larissa borrowed from her uncle Michael Dragomanov, that way he signed his articles. He is extremely influenced her life views.
Lesya was a very intelligent girl, she knew several foreign languages and at the age of 5 learned to play the piano, at eight - began to write poetry. When she was 9, she contracted tuberculosis of the bones, so has been forced to lie down for months. Even in this state, she beat hear leg, as if playing the piano. To write and publish Lesya began just 12 years! Her early works include Ukrainian translation of "Evenings on a Farm" by Nikolai Gogol, which she made in collaboration with his brother.
LesyaUkrainka had very strong in spirit. There are stories that once dad gave her a little goat. Once it fled into the woods, where it wastored by the wolves. Lesya was extremly upset when she learned about it, but said that would have crushed the wolf with his bare hands, so he does not hurt anyone weaker.
Ukrainka knew how to love. Some consider her first love was a poet-translator Maxim Slavinsky. When they met, she was only 15, her lover - 18. They loved the same –to write. Together they translated works by Heine. To SlavinskyLesya devoted love poetry masterpieces such as "Lit my heart," "Midsummer Night's Dream," "I wanted to be a song."
Some believe that the LesyaUkrainkawas in love with Olga Kobylianska - known Ukrainian writer. All through Lesya’s correspondence where she often called Kobylianskawith caressing words, such as "htosichka." But it was just friendship.
Instead, true love of LesyaUkrainka was Sergei Merzhynsky, revolutionary. He was sick with tuberculosis, and met her in Yalta in 1897, during the treatment. It was not love from the first sight, but as time passed they understood each other like nobody else. He called the poet "Lesya-Larochka." Beloved died on the hands of his second half - from pulmonary tuberculosis. She devoted him a poem - "Obsessed." Six years after the death Merzhynsky, when she wasthirty-six years old, she met with the studentClement Kvitka. He loved Ukrainian, was a collector of folk songs. They were so different, but decided to get married, though the family was againstit. It was Clement, whom she affectionately called Klonya, who took care of her until her death. All the money they spent on Lesya’streatment. But the vain and the disease eventually won. Lesia died in 1913 in Georgia, and is buried it in Kiev, Baikove cemetery.
Friends, we have to remember such magnificent people like LesyaUkrainka, because they are not our past, they are the pillar on which emerges the future of our nation. Eternal honor!

Yesterday in Parliament of Ukraine was celebrated the Day of the Crimea. The event was supported by the leader of the Crimean Tatar Mustafa Dzhemilev, deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations George Lohvynsky and Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union. Three years have passed since the beginning of the annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula. This date cannot be forgot and ignored.
We have no moral right to forget about the Ukrainians, who stayed on the peninsula. I absolutely agree with the leader of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar Refat Chubarov, who said: "Perhaps not all of us fully understand that hope and attention of hundreds and hundreds of thousands of citizens of Ukraine, who still live in the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, who are watching all our actions, catching our every word. Let's be honest: we all owe them, these citizens who retain their dignity and loyalty to Ukraine. " Sometimes especially important details are erased in the memory. But three years ago, 15000 pro-Ukrainian Crimeans came to the rally to say "no» to the branch of peninsula from Ukraine. People defended their position, now some of them are prosecuted by the Russian authorities. 22 Crimean Tatars have disappeared or have been kidnapped, including 4, who were found dead, said Refat Chubarov. On the sidelines of the parliament held a photo exhibition "Fighting through the years" of Crimean artist Baykus There were portraits of Crimean political prisoners, activists, who are dead or missing. These photos are incredibly painful.
At the event I met a couple – Shefked and Aishe Yuzbashevy. They, like thousands of others in Crimeans were forced to leave the peninsula after the occupation, leaving their home and favorite thing - their cafe. They moved to Lviv, where started all over again. They feel the support of the people bit still miss the Crimea.
Friends, de-occupation of the Crimea is a difficult process. But we simply cannot throw in the towel. Peninsula is Ukrainian, and Ukrainians live there, and we cannot leave them. These people should receive our support. I believe that one day everything will return into its place. The main thing that this belief should be common and reinforced by the actions.

On this day, 139 years ago, was born famous the painter of world level Kazimir Malevich. I think lots of people saw his "Black Square" painting. And did you know that Malevich was born in Kyiv and was extremely fond of this region?
He was born in a family of Severin and Ludwiga Malevich. His father was an engineer of sugar production, that’s why the family often moved from one town to another - he was offered a job at many sugar refineries. Till he was 17 years, Kasimir lived in Podil, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. Malevich learned to draw in Ukraine in the Kiev art school, in the workshop of Nicholas Pymonenko. In 1904, Kasimir moved to Moscow, where he studied at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. First, he loved to work in the styles of Cubism, Futurism, Neoprymityvizm. He took inspiration from his own memories, particularly of peasant life. After Moscow and Leningrad he lived in Vitebsk.
"Black Square" by Kazimir Malevich, was written in the autumn of 1915. It now seems that a black square could be drawn by anybody. But the artist considered this picture as a culmination of his work. According to legend, Kazimir created from four to seven "Black Squares" in different shades and textures. The artist managed to skillfully present his masterpiece on display so that all understood the philosophy of his work.
Worldwide recognition came to Malevich in 1927, after a trip abroad. Then he held exhibitions in Warsaw and Berlin. Soon after that Kasimir returned to Kyiv. There he was invited by the People's Commissar of Education Mykola Skrypnyk. He readily agreed, for work in Leningrad at the time was unbearable - in 1926 closed the State Institute of Art Culture, which he headed. More than this, Kasimir was convicted of espionage and throw to jail! The first time he has been sentenced for a month in jail "Lefortovo". The second time the artist was arrested for anti-Soviet propaganda - for three months he has been jailed in Leningrad "Crosses". There was a legend, that Malevich was released fast, because it was released that he was ill with cancer.
Black and white works of Malevich changed into bright ones in Kyiv. Art critics believe, that the reason for this was just returning home - to the vivid memories and experiences of childhood. And along with good memories, was a harsh reality. Experts claim that his new works on the peasant theme had a hidden protest. He was the only one who already drew people, who were suffering from famine (in its veiled technique and with the change of finishing of the picture).
Do you want to imagine what was the artist like?
He was an excellent speaker, always spoke bright and clever phrases, that’s why he was a good teacher. He had a special smell and remembered smells perfectly. He knewUkrainian, wrote letters on it, but more often - on doublespeak. He had a brilliant voice - bass and loved to sing Ukrainian songs, one of his favorite was "Hood wind rather in the field."
At the end of the life Kazimir Malevich was forced to return to Leningrad. In Kiev began purges of intellectuals, about which I have repeatedly told you. He knew that most likely he would fall under them.
Artist died in 1935 from cancer. His death was shrouded by the legends as well as his work. They said that he wanted to move away to the next world with hands outstretched so that the body could be resembled in the shape of a cross. According to another version - also he wanted to wear red cloak.
No matter how absurd and contradictory, this figure may seem now, it should be understood - Kazimir Malevich was a great artist to the world. Ukrainians have a right to know that he loved to work and live here. For this knowledge, we were subtracted years.

This day 75 years ago, at Babyn Yar Nazis shot Olena Teliha - Ukrainian poet, social and political activist. She was only 35 years old. But she lived them with honor and dignity in the struggle for the future of Ukraine.
She was born in Ilyinsk near Moscow. Her father Ivan Opanasovych was a famous scientist, mother - daughter of an Orthodox priest. Teliha had two older brothers. When she was 11, the family moved to Kyiv. The future poet studied at a girls' school of Olexandra Duchynska, where taught several languages: Ukrainian, Russian, German and French. In Kiev, Olena's father became a professor at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. They lived near the university, she enjoyed walks there. Not surprisingly, the first monument of Teliha appeared on the territory of the KPI in 2009.
In addition, Ivan Opanasovych headed the department in the Ministry of Railways in the days of the UNR. He was active in the Ukrainian liberation movement, it is not surprising that his family lived and grew up in an atmosphere of struggle and active public consciousness. Unfortunately, after the defeat of UNR father and one brother were forced to emigrate to the Czech Republic. The mother of other children still remained in Ukraine but not for a long time- she was scared for their safety and also went to Czechoslovakia. There, Olena entered the Ukrainian Pedagogical Institute in Prague, the historical-philological department. During her studies, she decided to speak only Ukrainian.
Olena lived in Podebrady. There she was formed as a person and talented writer. This with helped her another poet and former member of Ukrainian army Leonid Mosendz. He invited Olena to various meetings. In one of them she met Michael Teliha - her future husband. He was an engineer, UNR Army officer. Between them ignited the love that grew into a marriage.
Lucky was the poet in creative work, she began to publish her poems in "Literary and Scientific vistnyk."
In 1929 young family moved to Warsaw. There Teliha begins to correspond with Dontsov, wrote to his "Journal". Poet leaded an active social life, interested in any news from Ukraine.
In 1939 the Nazis occupied Poland. Then Olena Teliha fully befell what Nazism were and that it had to be defeated. Here the great role was played by her familiarity with Oleg Olzhych - famous poet and Deputy Head of the Organization of Ukrainian nationalists. Together they saw the bright future of the country only if he wins Ukrainian nationalist movement. Teliha wrote pro-Ukrainian leaflets and distributed them in Ukraine. She read a lot about it and mentally prepared to return to the place she considered home.
In July 1941, Olena Teliha with her husband and Ulas Samchuk crossed the river and went to the city. Finally, in October, she went to Kyiv - the city where she wanted to be. She began to engage the literary life, edit almanac "Timpanists", which contained works of the repressed Ukrainian writers.
In Kiev, Olena and Michael lived in poverty and in appalling conditions. Butthey didn’t want to leave, though Olena was warned of the danger. She was closely followed by the Gestapo, and finally the poet was seized at the premises of the Writers Union, which she headed. Oleg Olzhych came before, exhorted escape from Kyiv - but she refused. Michael Teliha, who loved his wife fully, voluntarily went to die with her.
According to legend, in a cell where was held Teliha, she left writing and drawing - sword trident. "Here Olena Teliha was sitting until she was shot" - these were her last words.
On the 25th of Februaryat 13.00 at Babi Yar, this terrible for all Ukrainian and Jewish place within 75 years after the death will be opened a monument to Olena Teliha and other Ukrainian nationalists, who were shot there by the Nazis.
We have to remember that terrible day. Olena wanted her country to develop, gain independence and sovereignty. And she put her life on the altar of this idea. Eternal memory.

Today is the International Mother Language Day. It was introduced by UNESCO to exalt the diversity of languages and their crucial role in the development of nations.
Language is us. I told you earlier about Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, who is highly revered by Israelites as a "father of modern Hebrew," because he revived the language that unites people. "Find common ground" - is not only a figurative idiom that means to negotiate. This is the main thrust of the countries which did not have the language or for those where it was not used because of different reasons for decades.
Let me give you a quote of remarkable Ukrainian writer Oxana Zabuzhko "Language - is not only a" mean of communication ", the transfer of “ready-made opinions, "as we all learned in the imperial school. It has a serious mission - to be the way of the birth of ideas. So, when there is "no language", people simply "cannot think". To think and live on Ukrainian is one of the main meanings which have use in the modern Ukrainian. It cannot be otherwise, when we experienced the Revolution of Dignity, continue to live in conditions of war in Donbas, when everything suggests Ukrainian people for unity – in the country with its own language. This does not mean that other languages should be suppressed. In Ukraine live over 130 national minorities, which speaks 79 native languages. We respect them and maintain. The main thing for everyone is to understand that the native language - is a treasure that was given for extremely high price, and we appreciate it and protect.
Ukrainian language is now at a new stage of development. More and more people speak it and are proud of that. Ukrainian translations of movies and book are among the best, more programs on television and radio is heard on Ukrainian. Trends that we see, once again prove that the Ukrainian language is modern, it is saturated with new colors. Also it changes those who speak and think on it.
Friends! Appreciate your language. I congratulate you all on this symbolic holiday. Mother tongue - is invisible connection of any nation. We remember and honor it!

On this day in 1905 was born Ulas Samchuk - Ukrainian writer and journalist, a member of the UNR government in exile. He was a true Ukrainian philosopher, a man of strong opinions, in Soviet times, his works and general mention of him were banned.
He was born in the village Derman in a family of wealthy farmers, that have always worked hard. Ulas never forgot his origin, so the subject of peasantry always was presented in his works. Fortunately, the village where he was born still had Ukrainian culture, among which the future writer grew. Modernization of the village was a main thing, in which Ulas saw the future of Ukraine. More than a hundred years has passed since his birth, but this topic still is not implemented.
Secondary education writer got at the Kremenets Ukrainian private school. There he first became acquainted with the phenomenon of Bolshevik propaganda. And his young mind first gave in! Samchuk even wanted to become a Soviet writer. But it did not happen. Later he analyzed that time as the biggest mistake. He told about Bolsheviks: "They do not see the purpose of life at all, they brought it down to junk, five-year plans, flats. If they are despair – they can get a bullet in the head. Terror replaces them faith, for without terror they believe that their ideals are sufficient to win. Who and how long wants to believe in terror? ". We can build an appropriate with parallel nowadays.
Samchuk’s fate was not so easy. At first, he was in the Polish Army, he fled it and settled in Germany. There he began to study philosophy, especially enjoyed reading Immanuel Kant. Later he studied in Czechoslovakia, where he met with Ukrainian immigrants. Their discussions helped Samchuk to grasp the idea of Ukrainian nationalism and believe in it. He was not indicative of a patriot, as was popular in those days. Samchuk dreamed about independent Ukraine, built not on the traditions, but in modern role, when in the short times, Ukraine will be able to overcome backwardness compared to European countries and become their competitor.
One of the basic ideas of Samchuk was that "the struggle is a true phenomenon of life." In the trilogy "Volyn" he eloquently reflects this idea. The author showed the image of the Ukrainian young man of late 1920's - early 1930 pp., who were seeking to find a place in the world Ukraine and ways of its national culture and state formation. Through this work in 32 years’ author became a popular writer.
During the German occupation of 1941-1944. Samchuk returned to Ukraine to legally promote the idea of Ukrainian nationalism into masses. He published the newspaper "Volyn", performed in different cities lectures. Ulas was able to carry a fire, the idea of an independent Ukraine. For which he was arrested by the German authorities and thrown in jail. Samchuk could even been shoot. But everything turned out differently. After the Second World War in Germany Ulas was sent to camps for displaced persons. There he founded "Art Ukrainian movement", promoted Ukrainian cultural life. Later he emigrated to Canada. He tried to continue writing there, but separated from the motherland, felt weak. Unfortunately, in Toronto writer died, without returning home.
Friends, sometimes it seems that the challenges we face are unique. In fact, history has repeatedly showed that often we repeat the same mistakes. But we are just people, and even the smartest philosophers like Ulas Samchuk could be wrong. The main thing is to bring this knowledge to use it for the benefits of ourselves and our country.

Today is one of the most tragic days in modern history of Ukraine - Memorial Day of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. This day bloody tsunami overwhelmed the Revolution of Dignity, killing most loyal sons of their homeland, which were fighting for truth, independence and sovereignty and against the usurpation of power.
On the 20th of February, 2014 were killed lots of activists of the Euromaidan. That day in the heart of Kyiv was the funeral of dead activists, who then became called the "Heavenly Hundred." "Plune kacha po Tusyni " – is a song requiem, which is directly associated with these terrible funerals and the death which we still cannot forgive and endure. For the first time, it was heard at the funeral of Belarus Mikhail Zhyznevsky, one of the first victims. He loved this song so friends accompanied him on his last journey with it. A deeper meaning and emotional swirl made it a requiem for all the victims at Euromaidan and war in the Donbas.
Friends! These people gave their lives for us. They gave us a chance to change the future of Ukraine, to make it free. As a sign of respect, we have not only remember the fallen heroes, but also we need to continue their work and decide together what path your country will go. Big country begins with each individual. Heroes do not die!

Friends!
19th of February is hard and historically important day in the history of Ukraine.
Three years ago, during the Revolution of dignity, on this night there was a terrible storm, capture and burning of building of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine. In a force were killed 16 protesters, in a fire were killed two people. In addition, were murdered journalist Vyacheslav Veremiy for attempting to photograph of "titushoky" Eternal memory to all those who died. We remember and never will be able to come to terms with this.
Ironically, this day, another historical aspect is significant for Ukraine. On the 19th of February 1954 Crimea became part of Ukraine. Then the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR issued a decree on withdrawal of the Crimean region of the RSFSR and the transfer it to the Ukrainian SSR. It should be noted that even before the official inclusion of territories, the Crimean region was in a chain with Ukraine economic space for the fuel and energy complex, metallurgy, machine building and light industry, railway transport. It should be taken into account, that as compensation for this most ruined by the time region, Russian Federation was given much of the ethnic Ukrainian lands. In addition, this transmission was legal and absolutely transparent. So, whatever myths and fabrications are made by Russian propaganda during the occupation of the Crimea, the fact remains - Crimea was and remains Ukrainian.
The last significant event of the day is approval of trident as small arms of Ukraine, which happened in 1992. Then the competition was attended by more than 200 works. Imagine, 192 of them contained a trident in different contexts. Defeated in the race project historian Andrew Grechylo and artist Ivan Turkish. Trident was made in the graphic tradition of the reign of Grand Duke Vladimir. This period was chosen for good reason, because under Vladimir ethnic Ukrainian lands were united into one state. In addition, the trident in 1918 became the emblem of the UPR as a symbol of collegiality Ukrainian lands. It carried a renovation idea of statehood.
I think all these events - the tragic and purpose ones prove that the struggle for Ukrainian statehood and the strength of its people still continues. History goes by circle, we remember all those events and make them a lesson, we have to remember the price we paid, that’s why Ukrainian will finally come to the victory.

Dear friends!
Three years ago, a tragic stage of the Revolution of Dignity have begun. In the morning, on the February 18th people organized a walk to Verkhovna Rada to appeal the deputies to the effective solutions that could solve the crisis situation in the country. This walk was called "peace coming". The main demand was the limiting of powers of the President of Ukraine by amending the Constitution. The peace strike was violently dispersed with the firearms usage. Twenty-three people from the “Heaven’s hundred” considered to be dead on Feb. 18, 2014.
To honor the memory of those who died in terrible days from 18th to 20th, from now on a “Three day petal walk” takes place in Kiev. Tt starts at 16 o'clock on Saturday and Sunday near the Maidan Stella, on Monday it starts at 19. People will walk different routes, sprinkling with the petals of flowers those places where Ukrainians were killed.
Also, is in these moments the morning procession in memory is going on from Grushevskogo to Institutska str. After this event, a photo exhibition can be seen "Focus events. The human factor. " in the "Ukrainian House”.
On Sunday, February 19th, at 10 am at the Alley of the “Heaven’s Hundred” hundreds of people will gather at a memorial service. At 17 p.m. they will light the lamp. And at the same Ukrainian house a performance will pe played "We Maidan" based on the memoirs of the actual participants in the Revolution of dignity.
Friends. This pain can not be forgotten. Unfortunately, the return of those brave men who died for the bright future of Ukraine - is impossible. But we have to remember them. It is not necessary to be engaged in certain activities. It is necessary to respect and appreciate their deeds. Eternal memory.

109 years ago, was born Alexa Vlyzko - talented Ukrainian writer. Unfortunately, his life was very short: at the age of 26 it ended in one of the prison rooms of the October Palace. Stalin's terror took his life, but his memory is the thing we should cherish.
Alexa Vlyzko was born in 1908 in the Novgorod province. His father was a clerk. Oleksy had two brothers - Alexander and Avenir. Eventually the family moved to Synhayivky, home of his grandfather.
Young Alex was a very capable young man, at the age of three he could read, at seven he wrote his first poems. When the boy was 14, a terrible tragedy happened. Brothers were having fun at the rink when Avenir fell into the hole. The boys tried to save him, but it did not help. They were alone in the icy water, and younger brother died. Alexander recovered, while Olexa permanently lost his hearing. Father could not survive the loss, so he began to drink. Occasionally he beat his wife Mary. The woman had the spirit to put an end to the violence, so one day, she took the children and went with them to Kyiv. Took a job as a cleaner at the hospital. The family was forced to live in the church. There Oleksa wrote his first poems in Ukrainian.
Loss of hearing has not stopped the guy on the contrary, he began to read a lot and understand the world through books. Olexa easily finished the language and literature department of the Kiev Institute of Education. At the age of 20 he went to travel – first through Germany, then - to the Pamir highlands.
Path of the literature was revealed to Vlyzko by the Boris Antononenko-Davidovich. He published in the magazine "Globus" Olexa’s poem "Heart to north." During his short life, he managed to write nine books of poetry and a book of essays.
Olexa Vlyzko was extremely talented and interesting guy, did not afraid adventures. Imagine, in 1927 in the newspaper "Communist" was the obituary that Vlyzko died in the river. But it was a joke, which he denied with his characteristic irony.
Not surprisingly, special writer had a special charm, which bribed its mate - Fotin, granddaughter of Taras Shevchenko. They lived together poorly but happily, in the basement of a house on the Striletska street.
But the happiness was short-lived. In December 1934 Vlyzko was arrested. And not only one - a group of Ukrainian cultural figures were too. There are two versions of when the writer died. According to the first, he was killed immediately after interrogation on the night of 7th to 8th of December. In the second - from December 14th to 15th , after passing the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court death sentence for belonging to "counterrevolutionary terrorist organization."
"But the most unfortunate country - is my home country. – The holder has to die. – I never worship him. "These were the lines of one of the poems of Oleksa Vlyzko. The man who could not hear, had a strong word, that was like an echo in the hearts of others. That is why he was killed, although he was very young. The problem of Ukrainians now is to make the country, which could be built be talented people who are killed by Stalin's regime, become not unhappy, but happy.

Today expire 204 years from the birth of Semen Gulak-Artemovs'kyj - famous composer, singer, author of one of the first Ukrainian operas "Zaporozhets beyond the Danube".
Semen was born in the family of the priest. Not surprisingly, parents wanted their son to follow his father - he was sent to study to Kyiv seminary. But fate decided Gulak-Artemovs'kyj case. Unique baritone of the boy then could be heard in the Monastery. And Mikhail Glinka did it, he was looking for artist for Ruslan role in the new opera "Ruslan and Lyudmila". The voice of young Gulak-Artemovs'kyj pleased Glinka, so he took him to St. Petersburg. First he taught him singing, then - collected funds to make Semen to go to study abroad. Three years Gulak-Artemovskij gathered knowledge in Paris and Florence, then went back to St. Petersburg.
Singer made his debut in the party of Lord Henry Aston in Donizetti's opera "Lucia di Lammermoor" at the stage of the Bolshoi Theater. Same year was the premiere of "Ruslan and Lyudmila" – Glinka’s work, which he had prepared for 5 years. Semen performed the leading role. For 22 years he has been the leading soloist of the St. Petersburg Imperial Opera. The audience went specifically "to Artemovs'kyj", he became a favorite of the public.
Mostly this talented man was known as the author of Ukrainian opera "Zaporozhets beyond the Danube". The royal censorship prohibited to put it on stage for 20 years. Later opera was "revived" by Marco Kropivnitskiy.
Also, Gulak-Artemovskij wrote many wonderful Ukrainian songs. They were: "sycamore stands above the water," "I do not want to sleep," "Oh, on the mountain, and the reapers reap."
Among the interesting facts - Semen Gulak-Artemovskij was a good friend of Taras Shevchenko. "Sycamore stands above the water" - a work that Semen dedicated to him. And he always supported poet at the times of exile, when the Taras was almost alone. He sent him money. Shevchenko, in return, painted portraits of Gulak-Artemovs'kyj and his wife.
Gulak-Artemovs'kyj played his last role in the "Hromoboy" Bolshoi Theatre.
Friends, I am sure that this priceless artistic legacy, which was left to us by Semen Gulak-Artemosvkyy will remain forever in our history. Listen, sing and tell others - so immortal works will live forever.

Today Ukrainians celebrate the last big holiday of winter - Candlemas. Also it was called Hromnytsya or Zymobor.
Candlemas is celebrated on the fortieth day after Christmas. On this day, Jesus was brought to the Temple to be consecrated to God. In the church, he met the old man Simeon, who, according to legend, had waited for the Messiah for 350 years. He recognized the child who was the Savior. He took Jesus in his arms (that’s why Simeon is called the God-Receiver) and predicted that this baby will be the salvation of all peoples. This meeting formed the basis for the holidays.
Ukrainians called the day Zymobor, because today winter meets spring. If on the twilight on Candlemas it will become warmer, it will mean that spring won. Also, people learn whether they will have harvest: for the night they expose a plate with corn on the court. If there will be dew in the morning – they will have it, if there is nit – they won’t. Incidentally, on this day farmers usually do not work. They hallowed water and candles. They were called "hromnytsyas" They protected the homes of thunder, from spring floods and e frost trees. So, the people called Candlemas also Hromnytsyas.
This water treated various diseases. And parents blessed sons who went to war or went on a long journey with it.
Friends! Let the heat win today, if not in the weather, but in our hearts. I wish you good mood, harmony, strength and inspiration to you and your families!

Today many countries celebrate Valentine's Day. In Ukraine, as well as in Israel, this holiday is not traditional, and is celebrated mostly by young people, as another reason to identify their feelings. But in both countries on this day dominates the mood of love.
In modern habit, on Valentine's Day it is recommended to women to dress in red and to men - give their halves red flowers and chocolate.
There are many legends about the origin of this holiday. In particular, during the Middle Ages appeared the story of Saint Valentine - the pastor who secretly crowned lovers. During the reign of Roman Emperor Claudius II there was a ban on marriage, because single men fought better on the battlefield. Valentine, who combined hearts, was arrested and sentenced to death. In prison, he fell in love with the daughter of his supervisor - Julia. It was her, to whom before his death he wrote a note and admitted in love. This was the first valentine card. Man was executed on the 14th of February, 269.
Few people know, but Israel has its own Valentine's Day - Tu B'Av. It is celebrated in the summer. In the period of the Second Temple in Jerusalem (348 BC - 70 AD) at this time people began to collect grapes. Girls dressed in white robes and started circle dances in the vineyards. At dances they preferred to meet their love ones. On Tu B'Av people was taken woo and married.
Friends! I have no doubt that true love does not need any dates and holidays - this feeling lives in our hearts every day. Treat the current boom as Family Day, think of your beloved little things that are important for you - the first meeting, a date, a favorite movie. Often you do not have enough time for that. Please love always, regardless of the season, problems and disagreements, disputes or fatigue. Because this feeling is the main engine of life.

Today expire 108 years from the birth of Victor Ivanov - Ukrainian film director, screenwriter and writer, author of such wonderful films as "Chasing Two Hares", "Oleksa Dovbush", "Shelmenko-Batman" and others.
Victor was born Kozyatyn in 1909, was the son of a military paramedic Michael Spiridonovich and housewife Tatyana Andreevna. When the boy was 10 years old, father died, because of cholera. The family lived very poorly, Victor started to work when he was 13 years – as a messenger. Then entered a trade school, after that - learned to be the assistant engineer. Victor had to finish studies at the Moscow Institute of Railway Transport. But he chose a different path, entered the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography, hit the studio director Sergei Eisenstein. He said the sacred phrase: "A serious young man that probably will shoot comedy ...".
Victor was extremely talented, and loved to invent stories, but also skillfully played chess. When World War II began, Victor went to the front – became a platoon commander flamethrower. Took part in forcing the Dnieper, was twice wounded and hard wounded.
But humor Viktor Ivanov had in his blood. The terrible events that he had to endure, he often recalled jokingly. Said that once even fought with the enemy in the Dovzhenko Film Studio.
He really wanted to get back to work after the war, but he cannot. So a few years Ivanov had to move other cities to work elsewhere as the artistic director, or just repair equipment. After that Alexander Dovzhenko personally helped him get to the studio in Kiev.
The first film of Viktor Ivanov was shot when he was 47. Among his films there are the film adaptations of Ukrainian classics to a wider audience. "Chasing Two Hares" director started filming in 1961. And, surprisingly, only few believed in Ivanov. But he managed to create a film that entered the history of cinema!
Inwork Viktor Ivanov was demanding. Especially for actors. Mostly he was strict to Margaret Krynytsina – who played the leading role. Like, she got this place through her husband, who was the editor studio. To her director often screamed, but in fact he got the desired result. The original tape was on Ukrainian. She was subsequently duplicated in Russian. But a few years ago, the original record was found and now "Chasing Two Hares" on mother tongue you can easily look online.
Over the life, the director did not get any benefit from such a popular movie. With family, they continued to live in the dormitory, received a small salary. State Prize of Ukraine Oleksandr Dovzhenko Ivanov received posthumously. Director died a few months after the film "Snow Wedding" after a long illness.
Friends, I we all sometimes think that we are too adult in order to change life, or do something monumental. But this is not true. And Viktor Ivanov example shows us this. Be creative, make experiments, do not be afraid to take risks!

On this day in 1901 was born Ukrainian writer Ivan Senchenko. Extremely hardworking man, he was not very well known. And we'll have to correct this injustice.
He was born in the village Natalyno, in the family of gardener. His father, without land, wasforced to work as a laborer, singer, gardener, shopkeeper, church regent. Ivan was a talented guy, finished Kostyantynohradsky college well. His father wanted son to study in a high school, but it did not happen. Education was overpriced - 80 rubles a year! So, Ivan studied at the teachers' seminary.
Later Ivan Senchenko became a teacher in his native village, and later moved to Kharkov. Love of books turned into work. He worked as a seller in the bookstore, as a librarian, teacher of Ukrainian language in the labor circle. He began to work as a journalist – wroteto different magazines. He entered the Kharkiv Institute of Education. In student times, he started to write - first verse, and then the stories. "Chernozem forces", he considered as his first major prose work. Senchenko read a lot, which is not surprising in view of his work. He loved Shevchenko, Kotlyarevsky, Gogol, Heine, Balzac and Cervantes. Not surprisingly, he joined the most famous literary organizations - "Plyh" "Hart" and later "VAPLITE."
Ivan Senchenko was not only a talented man, but also outstanding mentor to other writers - Alexander Kopylenko, George Smolich and others. Repeatedly published critical articles about the Ukrainian writers to start a literary discussion.
As his vertex work he considered the story "Savka" which comprehended the value of life, even in its everyday manifestations. But the real recognition Senchenko did not recognize. All his life, he was writing -first at work, later at home. Writer died in Kyiv, on the 9th of November, 1975. He is buried at the Baikove cemetery.
Friends! Ivan Senchenko was distinctive Ukrainian author and we have to read his wors. Because there are interesting and atypical Ukrainian philosophy of making the usual images of characters from a different, unexpected angle.

Today Jews celebrate Tu B'Shvat, the New Year or trees. According to legend, when God gave people New Year trees were offended and started to envy. Then the Lord gave a similar holiday and them. The period was chosen not by chance -exactly in the month "Shevat" trees wake up from winter sleep.
For Jews trees are essential - first Zionists planted them in Israel, not only in order to restore the land, but also as a symbol of the growth of the Jewish nation. And now on the Tu B'Shvat people plant trees, because it brings them to God. In regions where on the holiday is too cold for planting trees, Jews plant parsley. Anyone who cannot plant the plant itself, donates money to Jewish National Fund, which is engaged in restoration Israeli forest.
On Tu B'Shvat is a habit -to drink 4 glasses of mixed wine - red and white. And to eat fruits in the correct sequence to drew Tree of Life, which grew in Eden. First people have to eat fruits with inedible shell and a soft middle, like bananas or walnuts. Next - the fruit with soft shell and bone - grapes, dates. The last are the ones you can eat completely - berries.
Incidentally, the fact that Tu B'Shvat symbolizes rebirth is connected with the fact, that known Israeli building was laid on that day. First stone of Hebrew University in Jerusalem was laid on Tu B'Shvat in 1918, of Technion in Haifa - on holiday in 1925, even the Knesset was started to build on Tu B'Shvat - in 1949.
Friends! Tu B'Shvat is not only a wonderful holiday and strong tradition. This is the day that exalt ecology and environmental protection. We must protect not only your land, but the whole planet from pollution. Only when each take care of nature, we can save it.

On this day in 1953 in the Soviet embassy in Tel Aviv was an explosion. Representatives of the movement "Malchut Yisrael" ("Kingdom of Israel") Mankes Yosef and his supporters planted a bomb near the building to express a protest against the "doctor’s case" that was fabricated by the Stalinist regime. The explosion wounded the wife of the ambassador Klavdia Ershova, the driver, the administrative manager and his wife. A few days after the incident, the Soviet Union announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel. The reason of attack in the Soviet press, of course, was not showed.
On the 13th of January, 1953 in the newspaper "Pravda" and other mouthpieces of the USSR came TASS message: "Recently, the state security bodies uncovered the terrorist group of doctors who set out treatment to kill active life figures of the Soviet Union [... ] Members of terrorist groups were linked to international Jewish bourgeois-nationalist organization "Joint" created by American intelligence for allegedly providing material aid to Jews in other countries. " Everyone understood that it was genuinely anti-Semitic case - 6 of 9 detainees were Jews, others were taken into custody "to cover." Other people were continued to arrest, particularly in Kiev, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk.
What was a prerequisite of this case? Death of Andrei Zhdanov, the famous Soviet leader, initiator ideological campaign, which we know as "zhdanovschyna." According to is, the party had to control intellectual life of the country, it could not deviate from the "party" line. During the campaign from withering criticism suffered Maxim Rilsky, Olexander Dovzhenko and Vladimir Sosyura.
Andrei Zhdanov had heart problems, he went to a resort near Lake Valdai. There he became ill. To save him came several doctors. Cardiologist Lydia Timashuk was sure that he had a heart attack, a professor Yegorov and doctor Mayorov instead believed that the reason was "functional disorder" on the basis of sclerosis and hypertension. Usually in such cases, a consultation is carried out, but that time it did not happen. Perhaps the doctors knew - it makes no sense because the disease develops too fast because of cirrhosis. Zhdanov died on the 31st of August, 1948, his case moved to the archive. Untilthe right moment came.
The case was fabricated in order to please Stalin. For interviews of imprisoned, inside the prison of the Ministry of State Security of the USSR under Stalin approved sketches was created a special torture chamber. It was like a surgical room, for tortures was used medical instrument. The leader of the Soviet Union read daily interrogations. He demanded from the MGB the maximum development of the version of the Zionist nature of the conspiracy. Afterwords, the arrested doctor Myron Vovsi under the pressure of the investigation confirmed that he had received the directive of "extermination of cadres of the USSR" by the US organization "Joint" from the doctor Shymeliovych and known Jewish bourgeois nationalist Mikhoels in Moscow. Other members of terrorist group (doctors Vinogradov, Kogan and Egorov) according to the MGB were old British intelligence agents.
International reaction came soon. US President Dwight Eisenhower said that "US intelligence agencies never came into contact with the arrested professors." United Kingdom, China - all demanded that the truth from Soviet Union. But it was not the final goal, and anti-Semitic hysteria started. "Soviet people" drowned in hatred, began layoffs of Jews, especially physicians and pharmacists. Media called for decisive exposing of "hidden enemies of our people."
The case ended abruptly with the death of Joseph Stalin. Arrested doctors were quietly released, no information about rehabilitation and guidance on restoration work were given, but all that happened was asked to forget. The last Stalin’s case ended without blood, but the impact on people who did not know that the doctors were not blame was strong.
Friends! This story reminds us that the propaganda machine is terrible and its working for a man who "calls the tune." So everyone has to think by his head and interpret facts only. The lighter heads - the less likely that someone will force us to think like someone needs.

Friends! Today is the birthday of the famous Jewish philosopher Martin Buber. He was a true spiritual leader of European Jewry, and came from a family of Lviv publishers.
Martin was born in Vienna in a wealthy Jewish family. When the boy was 3 years old, his parents divorced. Dad and son moved to Lviv, where he was born. There lived grandparents of Martin - Solomon and Adele. Solomon was a banker, leader of Hasidic community in Lviv. He taught his son Hebrew, opened his heart to the love of religion. Later, Martin Buber in his book "My way to Hasidism" wrote that due to grandfather he realized the essence of all human religions. It is communication, dialogue with God, the relationship between I and Thou.
When Martin was 18, he entered the University of Vienna. After graduation, he studied in Zurich, Leipzig and Berlin. At the age of 20, the boy became interested in Zionism - the movement for a Jewish state. He was an active participant in it hand-in-hand with Theodor Herzl, about whom I told you before. Martin was an editor of the Zionist weekly "De Welt", and later founded his own publishing house "Yudisher Ferlyaґ" that produced Jewish books in German.
Between the two wars, Martin Buber taught ethics and philosophy of Judaism at the University of Frankfurt. But when the Nazis came to power, was forced to flee. He moved to Switzerland, then - to Jerusalem, where he was a professor at the Department of Sociology at the University of Jerusalem. In the early sixties, he received the honorary title of first president of the Israel Academy of Sciences.
Once Martin Buber was asked whether he agrees with Freud's idea that the meaning of life - is work and love. Then he smiled and said it was true, but he would add something else. "The meaning of life - is work, love, faith and humor." In this phrase is the whole meaning of his life and work.
Martin Buber wrote many works. The most famous are: "I and Thou", "Gog and Magog", "Garden of Eden Hasidism" and others. He died in Jerusalem at the age of 87 years.

On this day 213 years ago, was born "the first Ukrainian lexicographer" Mykola Markevich. Even then, the Russians called him the "Ukrainian bourgeois nationalist". I want to tell you his story.
Mykola Andriyovich was born in the village Dunajec in the family of landowner. His mother was Countess Anastasia Gudovich. The legacy of the family, he received an estate in the village Turivtsi. He studied the in the "boarding school" in the Main Pedagogical Institute in St. Petersburg and then had already started to write his first poems.
Mykola Markevich served in the army, during the service he met the future Decembrists. Once retired, he returned to his estate and married the daughter of another landowner - Ulyana Rakovich. His first poetry collection Mykola Andriyovich called "Ukrainian melodies." To them he wrote the music.
History interested man the most. First, he collected historical documents of Cossack era to create a Ukrainian Encyclopedic Dictionary. He wanted to give every Ukrainian an opportunity to be able to find any information about Ukraine, to study biographies of famous people. For 10 years, he had written articles for his dictionary, produced 11 volumes, each of which consisted of 600 pages. But he stopped printing it, because his books published in Moscow, were called "Large historically, mythological, and statistics literature dictionary of Russian state."
His pro-Ukrainian position he demonstrated by giving "History of Little Russia" in 5 volumes. There he prepared a compilation of all the events in the Ukrainian land from ancient times to the late 18th century and gave a complete picture of the people. For this edition, the author was criticized because according to Russian scientists: "Little Russia has never been a state, it follows that its history in the strict sense of the word did not exist." And for some reason picked Markevich collection of documents on the history of Ukraine stored in the Russian State Library, and his diaries - the Institute of Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
By the way, Taras Shevchenko used "History of Little Russia" when he wrote the poem "Gaydamaka." He even dedicated a poem with the following lines:
"Bandura player, a gray eagle,
Well you, brother,
You have wings, you have the power
You have where to fly. "
It was first published in "Kobzar" in 1840. In response, Mykola Markevich set to music Shevchenko’s poem "Why do I have black eyebrows."
Mykola Andriyovich died at the age of 56 years because of the disease in his own estate. He was buried in the family crypt near the Church of All Saints.
Friends! Ukrainian history is very interesting and full of variety. A personality, engaged in its research and preparation of the collection for future generations - must remain in our memory forever.

Friends, do you know that Ukraine is an Antarctic state? Everything started 21 years ago. On this day, Britain transferred its station "Faraday" to Ukraine. Above the station raised the Ukrainian flag and it was renamed into “Akademik Vernadsky".
After the Soviet collapse, Russia declared itself as the legal successor of all antarctic stations of the USSR, in Ukraine had none. In November 1993, Britain decided to transfer its station, which was located on Galindez Island of the Argentine archipelago to one of the states that have not had stations on the continent. This proposal came to our embassy. Then, Ukraine's ambassador to London was Academician Sergei Komisarenko, the biologist, who as a scientist did everything for Ukraine to gain its own Antarctic base.
And it was not even a "gift." For 10 years, Ukrainian researchers provided all the information they learned to British. Now the collaboration continues: UK helps technology and Ukrainian share data.
What do Ukrainian do at the Antarctic base? First, climate monitoring and observations of the ozone hole over Antarctica. Second, studies of mineral deposits. In particular, the Ukrainian had already found ore and coal near the station. Third, the study of changes in Earth's magnetic field, ionosphere and space.
The greatest success achieved Ukrainian polar biologists, who studied life on the continent and under water. Imagine, from Antarctic microorganisms, they created a cure for cancer and inflammation. Some of these drugs are now undergoing clinical trials. But Burns ointment produced on the base, has been already used in the area ATO!
Hibernate for "Akademik Vernadsky" from 10 to 15 polar, depending on funding. The team is divided into "researchers" who conduct researches and "technicians", which provide livelihoods of the station.
Every year the Ukrainian Antarctic base is visited by 4000 tourists. This is not surprising - there is something to see! For example, in 2011, at the station "Academik Vernadsky" was built the chapel of St. Vladimir, which is the southernmost places of worship in the world.
Friends! Because of the existence of the base " Akademik Vernadsky" Ukraine is among the 29 countries eligible to vote and veto in international decisions concerning Antarctica. This means that in future Ukraine can claim a portion of local resources. A continent, as we know, is rich in various minerals. These things we need to be proud of and always maintain. Our explorers are our pride.

Today I want to tell you an interesting story of great tailor, whose fate decided terrible accident.
Maximilian Hryunfeld was born in a Paul's village in the Carpathians on the 9th of August, 1928. His grandfather was a serious person, he built a synagogue, which was attended by dozens of local families. But big trouble was walking nearby. One day the Nazis came to the village, they gave the Jewish a day for the assembly and took them first to Mukachevo, and then - to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
There Maximilian was lucky because he was not sent to the gas chamber as half of his family. And, thanks to the skills of his father, both of them were scored to mechanics. But he never did that, at first he washed Nazi’s shirts. Once, Martin accidentally ripped one of them, for that he was severely beaten. Owner of the shirt threw it in the face of the guy, but he kept it.
A man who worked nearby, taught Hryunfeld to sew clothes. Then he repaired his shirt and began to wear it under his robe. The boy felt that clothing had its own power.
After the liberation of the concentration camp, Hryunfeld spent few years in Europe. He tried to find his family. It turned out that his father was killed a few months before the release, and the fate of the sisters could not be determined. But he found relatives in the US, so the boy decided to go there. He changed his name to "Martin Greenfield" took a garment factory. First, he was a janitor, then carried clothe through the fabric. Hardworking guy was noticed by company owner, he decided to teach him how to sew men's suits. It took a little time and Martin became the director of the factory.
Among the clients for whom factory swede and continue to sew the costumes were the most famous people of America. Martin made clothes for Dwight Eisenhower, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. Even the famous mobsters Meyer Lansky! But costumes by Martin are not cheap. One costs more than two thousand dollars.
Greenfield always joked that Nazi shirt helped Jew to build his own empire. Friends, I think each of us is simply has to be more attentive to the fate’s jokes. Who knows what we can expect of them?

Yesterday was the birthday of Alexander Goldman - prominent Ukrainian physicist of Jewish origin.
He was born in Warsaw, and when the boy was 10, the family moved to Kyiv. Alexander Genrikhovich was capable k, he graduated with honors from Alexander high school, then studied mathematics at Kiev University of St. Vladimir. He chose physics, entered the University of Leipzig. But after getting a doctorate, Alexander decided to return to Kyiv. But, because of Jewish origin he was denied a position at the university. Therefore, Goldman returned to Leipzig, then - went to work to Petrograd.
But Kyiv still called Goldman. He returned and became a teacher of physics of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. He always submerged in a whirlpool of ideas. He launched studying the physics of semiconductors in Ukraine. A small laboratory created by Alexander Genrikhovich grew into the institution that we now know as the Institute of Physics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Goldman founded and became the editor of the first physical magazine in Ukraine "Physical note."
It would seem - a man with such a bright mind has to continue to work and develop science in the country. He was even elected as academician of the USSR, was made a member of the Bureau. But not for a long time.
In 1938, Alexander Goldman was arbitrarily arrested by the NKVD and expelled member of the Academy. He was sentenced for "terrorism" and "Ukrainian bourgeois nationalism". During interrogation the man was tortured, but he did not recognize his fictitious guilt. He did not sign any denunciations of colleagues. Goldman was convicted and sent to exile in Kazakhstan. By the end of it, he has had no right to return to Ukraine for 15 years. He worked as a teacher of physics and Latin in schools and colleges. Time passed - and Alexander Genrikhovich yet came back home. And has worked for the good of Ukrainian science for another 12 years. He died in Kiev on the 30th of December , 1971.
Friends! We appreciate how easy we are now able to work for the country to develop it. Compared to our ancestors, for whom every good deed in the name of prosperity of Ukraine could cost a life. Do not waste this chance.

The visit of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin to Israel ended. I was a part of the delegation and took part in various meetings. I would like to share my impressions with you.
First, you should realize that this visit is a very good sign. Once in relations between the two countries was a brief lull, they again began to grow with double force.
During meetings with various representatives of the Israeli government, sides managed to discuss all important issues, related to bilateral cooperation between our countries. I believe that the visit of Pavlo Klimkin prepared a solid foundation for the early implementation of all the agreements, that were planned for 2017. And it is just the beginning. Soon will start the visit of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groisman. This means new perspectives.

On this day was born Valerian Pidmohylny – Ukrainian writer, who was tortured and murdered by Stalin's regime in Sandarmokh.
Valerian Petrovich was born in the village Chaply nearby Katerynoslav, he was the son of a peasant. His father died early, so mother cared about the son. She made him love love all Ukrainian staff, ranging from folk and ending with common values. The guy loved to read and learn, was very hard working. He studied with distinction and was thirsty for new knowledge.
After finishing secondary school, he easily entered the University, but was forced to leave because of lack of funds. Valerian started to work; first he was the secretary of the Department of Education. He combined the work of teacher and publishing. The boy wanted to write and all his free time he gave to literature. He made several short stories that were later published in the collection "Works. Volume I ». Pidmohylny was only 18 and he has swung the fact that his works would come out whole volumes! But, unfortunately, it did not happen.
But this period was undoubtedly the happiest in life of Valerian. After a while he moved to Vorzel. He took marriage with the daughter of the local priest, Catherine Chervinko. In a year they had a son Roman. Pidmohylny worked as a teacher of Ukrainian language. He continued to write. Later the family moved to Kyiv, where Valerian Pidmohylny easily found a new job – first at school, and later as publisher. Man was adored for his eccentricity, high morality and wisdom.
He wrote the truth. In his works Pidmohylny relied on the reality that he saw. He survived the Holodomor; watched Stalinist regime vilifies Ukrainian’s fates. He hated the dominant ideology, rooted for the future of his compatriots. A person, like Pidmohylny, was simply destroyed than. First Valerian Petrovich lost his membership in the composition of the editorial board "Life and Revolution", he was deprived of the possibility to publish. But he still did not lay his hands, moved with his family to Kharkov, worked as translatior. But interim peace ended. In the NKVD USSR author was put to the list of "hostile" and it was kind of sentence. Pidmohylny was arrested on the 8th of December, 1934. What were the charges, you will ask? Absurd. Allegedly Valerian was a "member of the counterrevolutionary terrorist organization, that set out to organize terror on party leaders." The writer bravely denied everything, but he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. And after a while the sentence changed. And life of Pidmohylny, along with other Ukrainian intellectuals, ended in Sandarmokh.
Friends! We'll have the honor the famous Ukrainian writer, who devoted his life to enrich Ukrainian culture. His work could be proud of anywhere, but it is – Ukrainian. We and our children should know about the period, Ukraine was going through than, and the person who wrote about it in the most realistic way is Valerian Pidmohylny.

Dear
friends!
Today marks 120 years since the birth of the famous Ukrainian poet Eugene Malaniuk.
He was born in the Novoarkhangelsk village of Kherson province in the family that came from the old Cossack clan. Eugen’s father, Philemon Vasiliyovich, was a teacher, and later - attorney in the court. And he was an artistic soul - he sang in the church choir and was a director of the theater performances. Eugene often said that he was grateful to his father for his ideological development, but for his heart and art he thanked his mother.
Eugene Malanyuk was an apt pupil, for outstanding achievements in teaching he was free from fees in Elisavetgrad Zemsky real school, and later he received a grant. The boy read a lot, he was interested in a variety of classical pieces - German, French, Russian. Particularly Eugene was impressed by the book of Marquis Marquis de Custine "Russia in 1839," where the author criticized the Russian mentality, and reveals the phenomenon of "Russian expansionism."
Then there was the First World War. Eugene became a student of the Kiev’s military school. When he graduated, he served as a praporshik and later was promoted to lieutenant. 1917 had changed all Eugene’s Malaniuk ideas. He realized it was time to create an independent Ukraine, participated in the creation of UNR, and later became the captain of the Ukrainian Army, served in the Operational Division of the General Staff, was the adjutant of commander of the Army of the UNR Vasyl Tyutyunnik. During the retreat of troops for Zbruch, Malanyuk was interned. It was in the Polish camp where a talent of poet-patriot had revealed that we appreciate today. Instead of the sentimental young man, the reader saw the "poet volitional impulse." The hard lines escaped from him, because he could not understand the UNR defeat – the defeat of his main dream for the independence of the motherland.
The first collections of poetry of Eugene Malaniuk saw the world when he was already in exile. But " the spool and stylus" and the books which appeared later had changed the world of literature. With his creative works, he tried to join a nation - the appearance of those Ukrainians who fight for what they want. One of these works - "the message" where Malanyuk speaks about a "brave sons of the nation." In the political headquarters of the Ukrainian USSR "the message" caused rage. Eugene Malaniuk was accused in the "Ukrainian fascism." But the poet wasn’t scared.
The only thing what Malanyuk desired the most - to return home. But it wasn’t destined. He had to wander for the whole life as an immigrant. He worked hard, but did not forget to write. Eugene died in America, where he get after the Second World War. The cemetery where he is buried, American Ukrainians called "our Pantheon."
Friends! Eugene Malanyuk was a man whose views as for the motherland were the most realistic. Real. He loved it and condemned for having made itself spoiled. Even then he understood what our nation must refuse to exist. "Small Russianism (Malorosiystvo) - wrote Malanyuk - this is the problem that will appear on the first place infront of the public men of the State Ukraine." To extirpate it - that's the task that still stands before us.
