Today is the 70th anniversary of the famous Ukrainian choral conductor, Hero of Ukraine Yevhen Savchuk.

He was born in 1947 in the village Brysnutsya in the Chernivtsi region. He studied at music school in Chernivtsi on the conductor faculty. Later he graduated from the Kiev State Conservatory. He was so fond of music that even during training always took part in the initiative, worked with children's choirs, choruses of institutes.

Not surprisingly, this talented and active man in his student years was invited to work in Kyiv Operetta Theater. Later he became a conductor, choirmaster of the State Ukrainian Folk Choir. Along with creative activities he was engaged in teaching - was a teacher at the Kiev Conservatory. Today it is National Music Academy of Ukraine Tchaikovsky and Yevgeny Gerasimov is a professor, who still works thee as a head of department of choral conducting.

The most Yevhen Savchuk is known for his work with the choir "Dumka". He made it truly great. For three decades under his leadership "Dumka" has made a significant contribution to the development of national art and became one of the leading choirs in the world. Moreover - chapel promotes tradition Ukrainian choral culture, presents works of well-known classics in modern interpretation. "Dumka" made more than 100 concerts, which Choir performed throughout the world. "Dumka" and "Dudaryk" are the only in Ukraine Ensembles,which were awarded the National Taras Shevchenko Prize of Ukraine.

To Yevgeny Gerasimov we owe the emergence of various competitions and festivals. In some he was the organizer, in others - the initiator. For example, Nikolai Leontovich festival, Cyril Stetsenko concert, " Spring Kyiv sings" and others.
