Friends!
On this day was born Valerian Pidmohylny – Ukrainian writer, who was tortured and murdered by Stalin's regime in Sandarmokh.
Valerian Petrovich was born in the village Chaply nearby Katerynoslav, he was the son of a peasant. His father died early, so mother cared about the son. She made him love love all Ukrainian staff, ranging from folk and ending with common values. The guy loved to read and learn, was very hard working. He studied with distinction and was thirsty for new knowledge.
After finishing secondary school, he easily entered the University, but was forced to leave because of lack of funds. Valerian started to work; first he was the secretary of the Department of Education. He combined the work of teacher and publishing. The boy wanted to write and all his free time he gave to literature. He made several short stories that were later published in the collection "Works. Volume I ». Pidmohylny was only 18 and he has swung the fact that his works would come out whole volumes! But, unfortunately, it did not happen.
But this period was undoubtedly the happiest in life of Valerian. After a while he moved to Vorzel. He took marriage with the daughter of the local priest, Catherine Chervinko. In a year they had a son Roman. Pidmohylny worked as a teacher of Ukrainian language. He continued to write. Later the family moved to Kyiv, where Valerian Pidmohylny easily found a new job – first at school, and later as publisher. Man was adored for his eccentricity, high morality and wisdom.
He wrote the truth. In his works Pidmohylny relied on the reality that he saw. He survived the Holodomor; watched Stalinist regime vilifies Ukrainian’s fates. He hated the dominant ideology, rooted for the future of his compatriots. A person, like Pidmohylny, was simply destroyed than. First Valerian Petrovich lost his membership in the composition of the editorial board "Life and Revolution", he was deprived of the possibility to publish. But he still did not lay his hands, moved with his family to Kharkov, worked as translatior. But interim peace ended. In the NKVD USSR author was put to the list of "hostile" and it was kind of sentence. Pidmohylny was arrested on the 8th of December, 1934. What were the charges, you will ask? Absurd. Allegedly Valerian was a "member of the counterrevolutionary terrorist organization, that set out to organize terror on party leaders." The writer bravely denied everything, but he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. And after a while the sentence changed. And life of Pidmohylny, along with other Ukrainian intellectuals, ended in Sandarmokh.
Friends! We'll have the honor the famous Ukrainian writer, who devoted his life to enrich Ukrainian culture. His work could be proud of anywhere, but it is – Ukrainian. We and our children should know about the period, Ukraine was going through than, and the person who wrote about it in the most realistic way is Valerian Pidmohylny.
